If you fancy a day out over the summer holidays we have listed our ‘Top Ten’ ideas within an hours drive of North Leeds. Hopefully, the sun will shine over the holidays but if not, we’ve also included indoor activities too.
1. Stockeld Park Summer Adventure

Families are being encouraged to get a wiggle on and head to RHS Garden Harlow Carr as The Very Hungry Caterpillar™ descends on the garden for the summer holidays.
Eric Carle’s much-loved classic will be brought to life with giant willow sculptures, 3D apples and pears, hands-on craft activities and storytelling with the Garden Detectives. Children can follow a daily garden trail in search of the Very Hungry Caterpillar, enjoy birds-of-prey flying displays and make their own caterpillar hat. Activities vary daily.

Take part in the turtle trail and find out about more about the species that live all around the world and the challenges they face. Get hands on in the ‘turtle hospital’ where children can get up close with a giant turtle! There will also be interactive presentations and talks from the keepers as well as a craft and face painting corner.

From jumping through the hay bale maze at Lotherton to being inspired by Yorkshire Sculpture International at Leeds Art Gallery, there’s fun-filled days out across Leeds Museums & Galleries this summer.
Make marvellous music at Leeds City Museum and encounter monsters in the mansion at Temple Newsam. Take part in roarsome crafts and swashbuckling trails at Abbey House Museum, then pack a picnic and head across to Kirkstall Abbey to meet Barry the dragon.
Leeds Industrial Museum and Thwaite Watermill are joining up for the Vintage Bus Day once again, jump on board to discover Leeds’ industrial heritage. Book a spot on a free weekly workshop at the incredible Leeds Discovery Centre and be amazed by some of the 1.3million objects in the collection.
The summer visitors to Studfold will be able to discover over 20 fairy houses as they follow the adventure trail and discover the code that will unlock the entrance gate to the new ‘Two Stone Wishes’ woodland fairy village.
As young explorers venture into the woodland they can imagine life for the little folk living in the ornate wooden houses in the village as they read the accompanying panels that tell a fairy tale entitled ‘Daniel and the Messles’
From the giant storytelling chair, children can find out whether Daniel can save the fairies and pixies! Children are encouraged to get in the spirit by wearing their own mythical sprite outfit, or they can borrow fairy wings and pixie hats from the on-site shop!

The unique family run Lavender Farm has evolved over the years to provide an amazing day out for all the family. Activities include giant games maze, nature trails, mini foot-golf, mud kitchen, giant sandpit, mini and junior timber trails, den zone, nature quiz, miniature railway means there is plenty to keep children of all ages entertained.
There is also a lovely tea room for refreshments but picnics are welcome. Dogs are also welcome on leads.
