The 1st of August marks the time of the year to celebrate all things Yorkshire! With so much on offer for families in the UK’s largest county, I hope you gain some inspiration from our suggestions on how you can celebrate Yorkshire Day with the kids.
1. Visit one of our local heritage sites
Learn about Yorkshire’s history at one of our fantastic local heritage sites. There is so much to discover- everything from one of our great Family Homes (Lotherton, Temple Newsam, Nostell) to Abbeys (Kirkstall Abbey, Bolton Abbey, Fountains Abbey), to times of our past (Abbey House Museum, Thwaite Watermills , Leeds Industrial Museum, National Railway Museum, National Coal Mining Museum) and even some natural sites (Mother Shipton’s, Stump Cross Caverns, Brimham Rocks). All these sites have some great activities for the children this summer.
2. Enjoy a three-day Yorkshire Maker’s Market at The White Rose Shopping Centre
White Rose Shopping Centre is honouring God’s own county this Yorkshire Day with a market celebrating Yorkshire-based crafters and makers, hosted in the centre from 30th July – 1st August.
The three-day Yorkshire Makers Market will include stalls such as:
Each of the stalls will be open from 10am – 5pm Saturday and Monday, and 11am – 5pm Sunday.
3. Embark on a Yorkshire Dales Walk
