Thanksgiving celebrates the help that American settlers received back in 1621 from a Native American called Squanto. He taught them to hunt, fish and grow crops, and to thank him, the settlers invited the Native Americans to a huge feast- a three day celebration to enjoy the harvest with them- Thanksgiving!
This year, more than ever, we need to spend some time considering those positives and silver linings. What is your family grateful as you sit around the table? Place an empty bowl in the middle of the table, and get everyone to write three things that they are grateful for on slips of paper. At the end of the meal read them all out.
Think Autumnal colours as you make bunting, and read this blog for ideas on making an Autumn Globe. An autumnal wreath could decorate your door and you could create a Thankful Tree with the children.
Pumpkins were supposedly one of the crops that Squanto taught the settlers to grow, which is why they play such a prominent part in Thanksgiving celebrations. Have a look at this blog for some fun ideas of things that you can do with pumpkins.
Autumn is such a beautiful time! With leaves in such beautiful colours, make sure that you make the most of them. How about getting out for an Autumnal walk and creating some leaf art? Or for more Autumn-inspired nature crafts, see this blog.
Is it too soon for Christmas? NEVER IN THIS MUMBLERS OPINION! Many Americans choose their Christmas Tree over Thanksgiving, so why not follow this fabulous tradition and start getting out the Christmas decorations.
