Pre-Schools usually offer sessional care for children from the age of 2 to 5. They often work only in term-time, and in most cases offer funded provision for 3 and 4 year olds. They will be OFSTED registered and you can usual pay for top up sessions if you need more than the funded sessions. These are often but not always attached to a school although attendance does not guarantee a place at the primary school.

Ashville College is one of the UK’s leading co-educational independent day and boarding schools for pupils aged 2-18.

A happy and caring school, Ashville offers high-quality teaching, exciting co-curricular activities, excellent facilities, and a strong focus on pastoral care, where every child feels encouraged and valued. It is a place where children and young people thrive, and leave ‘future ready’ for life beyond school.

Founded in 1877, Ashville is located a 20-minute walk away from Harrogate town centre, and consists of Ashville Acorns Pre-Prep for 2 to 5-year-olds, and Ashville’s Prep School, Senior School and Sixth Form. Ashville College is a member of the HMC, BSA, ISC, and NEASC, and an associate member of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust.

The Gatehouse Nursery is a purpose-built, stand-alone facility set within the grounds of Gateways School, a highly successful independent school for boys and girls, in Harewood village, north of Leeds.

Children aged 2 and 3 can attend The Gatehouse, which opens from 7.30am until 6pm. Our nursery is a bright, welcoming space with an indoor and outdoor area. Learning through discovery is our key focus and we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum. With a ratio of 4 children to 1 member of staff, we ensure that each child receives the individual attention they need at this important stage of their development.

Once they are 3 years old, children can start Littlegates, which houses Pre-Reception and Reception children. A carefully structured teaching programme combined with a learning environment which promotes independence, critical thinking and a lifelong love of learning, ensures children have a solid educational start.

Children also have access to the whole school facilities including our extensive grounds, a play area, dance studio and sports hall. Enrichment opportunities include Rugbytots, Spanish and musical theatre dance classes which are delivered in school by professionals. Children follow specially devised programmes to develop skills and confidence alongside their friends whilst having a great deal of fun!

‘Where a passion for learning and a love of life begins’

The wonderful environment at Highfield Pre-School enables children to explore, imagine and learn. Rated ‘Excellent in All Areas’ by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in their last inspection report, the pre-school occupies a large Victorian family house on the Harrogate Ladies’ College campus.

Located in the Duchy area of Harrogate, Highfield Pre-School’s large outdoor space and private gardens provide lots of opportunities for children to learn outside the classroom and explore their environment.

A focus on child development and the Early Years Curriculum mean children are equipped with academic and social skills in preparation for ‘big school’. The superb facilities offer a stimulating environment and weekly timetabled activities include Swimming, French, Music, PE, Outdoor Learning and baking led by qualified teachers. As children move through the pre-school they spend an increasing amount of time in Highfield Prep School visiting the Reception classrooms. This integrated approach enables children to settle quickly into life at ‘big school’ and helps them to continue to flourish.

Dedicated before and after school care (7.30am – 6pm) and the EYFS Holiday Club help families to juggle busy lives and the unique home from home atmosphere makes it the perfect stepping stone from home to school.

Rose Court Nursery prides itself on being an educational nursery and not a typical day care provider. We offer a challenging and stimulating educational programme which forms an essential part of the foundation stage and prepares children for reception. It has its own dedicated area in the main primary building, including a newly built outdoor playground with climbing frames and areas specially designed for three-year-olds.

Our nursery is led by hugely knowledgeable staff with a dedicated teacher allocated to each class supported by teaching assistants. With an excellent staff ratio the strengths of  individual pupils are recognised and nurtured from day one. Children enjoy using all the areas of provision and working with staff on structured activities. This takes place in small groups and also on an individual basis and all areas of provision are carefully planned to maximise learning opportunities.

Parents can choose from 3, 4 or 5 day options, starting at 9.00am and finishing at 3.00pm. Drop off is available from 7.45am. Wraparound care is available from 7.15am -6.00pm for an additional cost.
