Gateways is a small non-selective highly successful independent school for pupils aged 2-18 years situated in Harewood village, north of Leeds.

Our Sixth Form pupils benefit from small class sizes and individual attention; the average A Level class size is just 5 pupils. This allows pupils to develop close relationships with their peers and teachers and to perform well academically. In 2021, 79% of all A Levels were awarded at A*/A grade.

In September 2022, we are opening our new Sixth Form Centre which is situated in a separate building, adjacent to our main site.  Sixth Form pupils will still have access to the main site facilities but will benefit from having their own building with study rooms, social areas and dining facilities.

Sixth Form pupils have the opportunity to be involved in wider school activities and can develop their leadership qualities in a variety of ways including leading house competitions, organising music, sporting, drama, charity and general whole school events.

Since 2019, Gateways has welcomed boys into High School, therefore our Sixth Form will also become co-educational in a few years.

The dedicated Sixth Form Centre at Harrogate Ladies’ College offers students a more independent style of learning: there is a focus on individual research and girls are allocated their own private study, away from the main teaching areas of the school. There are also opportunities for greater responsibility and leadership within our Prefect team as well as Head Girls and Head of House roles.

Small class sizes in Sixth Form mean that students benefit from individual support from highly qualified teachers to help meet the challenges of A levels and developing new styles of learning. Sixth Form staff have expert knowledge of UK and international universities and work closely with students and their families to help them identify courses and prepare tailored personal statements.

For students looking to pursue careers in Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science there is an early preparation programme as well as an Oxbridge Preparation Programme. All of our pupils receive individual support and tutoring throughout the university application process.
