Gym-gems Gymnastics…where learning and fun go hand in hand for babies and toddlers

In her guest blog Lisa, owner of Gym-gems in Wetherby, discusses why their classes designed by British Gymnastics Coaches make exercise fun, interesting and rewarding and assist parents in spending quality time with their children.

Sessions run throughout the day on Wednesdays at Wetherby Sports Association and include baby classes (suitable from??), parent and child sessions (??age) and independent classes (?? age) for those that are ready for the challenge.

At the sessions, children can try-out traditional gymnastics skills such as rolling, jumping, and swinging.  There is also a large range of activities that underpin gymnastics through play, helping children develop their skills of balance, coordination and agility in a safe and stimulating environment.

The programme is set to music and themed around topics that children love including animals, transport and trips to the seaside.   The sessions are carefully designed to appreciate the importance of self-discovery to help build self-esteem and provide a chance to have a lively enjoyable experience for little ones – and the grown ups too!

Sessions help to enhance:

• Physical development by laying the foundations for building strength, endurance, agility, balance, flexibility, power, co-ordination, spatial awareness, posture and relaxation – all of the building blocks to an active lifestyle and healthy living.
• Social awareness by helping children to understand behaviours such as respect, manners, sharing, co-operation, integration.
• Intellectual stimulation by encouraging thinking for oneself, problem solving, listening, concentration, reinforcement of colours, shapes, numbers, vocab, commands and directional pathways.
