I can honestly say that Red’s True Barbecue was not somewhere I had thought of visiting with the kids but when we saw the Kids Eat Free offer we decided to try the restaurant in the City Centre, just off Call Lane. (They also have another restaurant in Headingley)
We were in town for the day and decided to have an early tea, even at 5pm it was already busy and had a good atmosphere. There is an open kitchen and the kids loved watching the chefs cook on the BBQs, they were mesmerised by the flames! (Don’t worry it is all very safe!)
The staff were great with the kids and the menu doubled as an activity sheet (BBQ themed), pencils were also provided. The kids menu follows the overall BBQ theme with five ‘True BBQ Mains’ to choose from; Cheese Burger, Pit Dog, Mini Mac-n-Cheese, Little Red’s Ribs and BBQ Chicken Fold’em. There are also some ‘Little Plates’ if they fancy a starter. We asked for the kids meals to come as soon as they were ready as the great smells from the kitchen were making the kids hungry!
While the kids were busy with the activity sheets we could take our time choosing from the full menu. There was plenty of choice and lots of different things that sounded enticing. We eventually went for The Feast for 2 which was a selection of everything and was served on what looked like a dustbin lid (it was that big)! We ordered a couple of sides to go alongside it (corn on the cob and sweet potato fries) but given the size of the feast when it arrived we probably didn’t need to order them.
When it came to desserts we were too full from our main course to eat anymore (although there looked like lots of choice) but as usual, the kids had room for a dessert, particularly when they saw the menu. Again it was different from the norm with Fresh Fruit Chocolate Dippers, Little Red’s Sundaes and Shakes. They weren’t disappointed when they arrived.
If you are looking for something a bit different then its worth visiting Reds True BBQ. The kids really enjoyed their meals and it was a pleasant change to our normal choice of places to eat out with kids.
A free kids meal with every adult main ordered (maximum of 3 free kids meals per table) every Saturday and Sunday and school holidays 12-5pm.
