COVID-19 UPDATE: MOTHER SHIPTON’S ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND REOPENS ON THE 4TH JULY!
Have you ever dreamt of stepping into an utterly enchanted realm? Deep in the captivating woodland of Mother Shipton’s, filled with fairy rings and secret doorways, pixies are waiting to play!
Tread carefully through the land of the woodland people and keep your eyes peeled as you follow the trail to see their tiny houses. Play in the Adventure Playground like real pixie folk, dance like a fluttering fairy and discover the secrets of forest folklore.
Mother Shipton’s is an outdoor attraction with continual movement of people through the mile-long park, with plenty of outdoor seating and space for visitors to enjoy a picnic; ice creams and hot drinks are also available.
Dogs are welcome in the park for a picturesque mile-long walk along the River Nidd. Toilets are open and safety measures, including signage and screens, are in place.
There’s something for everyone with the Cave, Petrifying Well, Adventure Playground and Museum & Gift Shop.
Open for pre-booked cars only. Time slots available from 9.30am to 3pm. Book online www.mothershipton.co.k
There are three sets of steps in the attraction which are not wheelchair accessible and pushchairs must be parked at the bottom of these steps – we recommend bringing a sling.
Within historic woodland along the River Nidd is Mother Shipton’s Cave, the birthplace of Yorkshire’s famous prophetess. It is situated next to the Petrifying Well, England’s oldest visitor attraction. The attraction tells the story of Mother Shipton and the water which turns objects to stone.
The park is a unique, unspoilt remnant of the Royal Forest of Knaresborough. The estate was sold by King Charles I in 1630 to a local gentleman, Sir Charles Slingsby; his family landscaped and created the park and the pathways visitors walk along today.
During a visit it is an old tradition to make a wish. The Wishing Well is fed by the same magical waters as the Petrifying Well and has been wished upon for over 300 years. Many visitors have been in touch to tell us their wishes have come true!
The park has several scenic picnic areas, an adventure playground and museum and gift shop. Dogs are welcome in all areas, apart from the playground.
Themed events run during school holidays. For more information about family events visit our website.
Please check the website for up-to-date opening times and any unforeseen park closures. Open weekends in March and daily from April – November 2020.
Open daily until the 27th September 2020, 10am – 5pm. (July & August 10am – 5pm)
