Balloon Tree Farmshop & Cafe (York)

The award-winning farm shop and newly expanded café specialises in home-grown fruit, veg, and local and rare breed meats, plus the finest homemade food including quiches, scones, soups and seasonal dishes.

Opened 9th June 2020, you need to pre-purchase a voucher that will allow you to pick a time slot to visit the farm and pick fruit. Please check the Facebook Page/Website for daily updates and opening times as weather dependant.

PYO strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, red currants, black currants, white currants, blackberries, blueberries, plums, rhubarb and have some vegetables such as pulling peas, broad beans and runner beans. (All subject to availability)

Bert’s Barrow Pick your Own Strawberry Field

Bert’s Barrow is a small family run farm in Hillam and was started up by Marlene and Ian (Bert) Thompson with a cart at the side of the road with an honesty box, selling locally sourced seasonal vegetables in aid of the village defibrillator fund.

Opening Dates:

Open Wednesday 3rd June until approx mid July 2020

Open Mon – Fri 9am – 5pm, Sat 9am -4pm and Sun 10am-4pm.

Other Details:

  • Social distancing with a one in one out operation when they reach safe capacity
  • All pickers must wear a face mask (available to buy for £1)
  • Due to face mask policy, under 2’s are not permitted
  • Lot’s of lovely produce from drive through farm shop

Austfield Farm, Austfield Lane, Hillam, Near Selby, LS25 5NQ.

Birchfield Family Farm – Pick Your Own (Harrogate)

Birchfield farm is a picturesque working farm nestled in the valley of Nidderdale.  As well as PYO strawberries they also have an amazing cafe and ice cream parlour (homemade!) and you can visit the animals on the farm.  From late July they also have a ‘Maize Maze’, barrel rides, bouncy castle, sandpit and other activities. Pick your own strawberries 0pen from 12th June 2020. Open: 10 am to 5 pm daily. (Please check Facebook Page and website for updates on opening before travelling)

  • Social distancing at all times, please respect other pickers and families in the patch
  • Toilets – For health & safety reasons there are currently no toilets open on site.
  • No dogs (except guide dogs) are allowed in the patch.
  • Once you have picked and enjoyed your time in the strawberry field please make your way off site so that another family can enjoy their time here too.
  • The amount of people will be restricted in the patch at one time.
  • No groups bigger than 6 people.
  • No food or picnics to be consumed onsite other than sat in your car.
  • No play area, café or farm will be open at this time, just PYO strawberries.
  • A hand wash station is available to use before entry to the patch and we ask that you only touch fruits that you are going to pick and buy.

Farmer Copley’s Pick Your Own

The popular Farmer Copleys has fields of strawberries and raspberries to choose from.  Alongside the farm shop, there is the Moo Cafe which will also be celebrating the strawberry in its desserts and cakes, salads, drinks, juices, cocktails and Pimms. (The Moo cafe is currently closed due to Coronavirus restrictions).

Provisional Opening Dates:

Pick your own strawberries available from 1st July 2020, daily 10am -4pm.

Socially distanced picking with a ticketing system to control the number of pickers – available to book from approx 20th June 2020.

Kemps Farm Pick Your Own, Horsforth

Our local PYO in North Leeds is Kemps in Horsforth.  Farming in Horsforth for over 60 years the Kemp family started the popular outdoor pick your own in 1984. The pick your own concentrates on strawberries and raspberries, with a number of varieties of each to enable as long a picking season as possible.

Opening 17th June 2020, Picking slots available between 10am-6pm

  • Pre-purchased entry ticket/voucher required to limit visitor numbers at any one time, so the farm does not get overwhelmed. 
  • To pre-purchase your ticket/slot visit kemps.merlintickets.co.uk/  (Slots will be released daily based on fruit availability). Ticket price: £2 adult, £1 child,  under 3 free.

MH Poskitt have been producing carrots for over forty years in Yorkshire and have built a reputation as the leading supplier in the White Rose County. They open their doors to the public for strawberry picking every year!

Strawberry Fields Pick Your Own, Morley

Family owned strawberry fields at Thorn Farm in Morley has a large patch with a variety of different berries to choose from.

Open 17th June until approx mid July 2020.

Open daily 12pm -5pm, 7 days a week, weather and fruit permitting.

Other Details:

  • Picking Times – 12pm – 5pm Daily – unless  Facebook page is updated otherwise, due to reasons such as weather or we need more fruit to ripen
  •  On arrival, please park in the field as normal, please follow the entrance markers – ensuring you keep your distance
  • You may have to queue depending on how busy the field is
  • Operating a “Pay before you pick service”. Please have the correct amount of change / money. Small Basket £5, Large Basket – £15
  • Once you have paid for your basket, please walk down the field and pick your strawberries, once picked you can use the exit route back to your car
  • Please be courteous towards others picking and keep your distance
  • You MUST wash your strawberries before eating
  • Cash only
  • Large free car park (There is a short walk to the strawberry field)
  • No toilets or dogs allowed onsite
