Days Out and Things to Do with Babies in Leeds

It’s tough when you have a baby under 1 isn’t it? Finding baby activities and things to do that you can enjoy AND they can enjoy! Not to mention places that are accessible to buggies and have changing facilities…. Well, we’ve been asking our Mumblers for some advice… here are our recommendations for baby activities, days out and things to do with babies under 1 in Leeds.

Baby Classes & Groups in Leeds

baby-classes-leedsThere are lots of fabulous baby classes that you can book onto (have a look at our full listings for baby classes in North Leeds & Wetherby here or in South, East & West Leeds here). many parents like keeping a structure to their week with regular class bookings. Popular classes that you can start from 6 weeks old for babies include Baby Massage, Baby Sensory, Baby Swimming, and Baby Yoga. Once babies are a few month old they might enjoy more musical classes or active classes.

If you dont want to commit to weekly classes, there are also Stay & Play sessions and Playgroups running all over Leeds. You can meet parents of babies with similar ages and enjoy a drink with your baby in a welcoming environment.

Leeds Libraries also offer free Story & Rhyme Time sessions at libraries across Leeds. No booking is needed, you just turn up. Activities include singing songs, playing instruments and hearing a story.


Baby Soft Play and Baby Sensory Rooms

Keeping babies interested and giving us some time to relax, our favourite Baby Soft Play & Baby sensory rooms in Leeds include;

  • Little Burrowers – a unique sensory and soft play area designed for babies 0-18 months, based in Pudsey. A small cafe area is attached to the area.
  • Jigsaw Juniors in Horsforth, open for walk-in pay and play Mondays to Fridays have a sensory room including an area for babies under 12 months
  • Grasshoppers at Tong Garden Centre is a good choice if you have an older sibling, with a baby area and a large adventure soft play for the bigger ones!
  • In the summer months, sitting babies may enjoy playing in sand. See this blog for our suggestions of sandpits around Leeds.

eating-out-baby-leedsBaby- Friendly Places to Eat and Drink

If you just need to get out of the house, it might be nice to grab a cup of tea and a bite to eat somewhere. Happily, most places are now much more baby-friendly, with changing facilities, high chairs and very welcoming of breastfeeding mums.

There are also some places with activities for you alongside your food and drink!

  • The Calf Shed, the home of Moo Music Leeds often is open for drop in at the cafe, sometimes with play equipment available to use.
  • Tiny Boo in Headingly offers a Baby & Toddler Play Space whilst you can enjoy a coffee. You book tables rather than an individual ticket.
  • Jackrabbits Pottery is a Paint Your Own Pottery Studio who offer Baby Hand and Footprints whilst you enjoy a fabulous hot drink and munch on homemade cakes
  • Leeds Deli and Welcome In Community Cafe both have toys for young children to play in.
  • Why not enjoy a child-free brunch? The Den Leeds offers flexible drop-off childcare for children from 3 months old, Mondays & Fridays 10am-12pm

Leeds has a number of child friendly screenings, so you can happily have a trip out to the cinema safe in the knowledge that your baby can fuss & feed without anyone blinking!

Buggy Walks around Leeds

Find our Mumbler favourite buggy walks around Leeds in this blog or browse more buggy walks on the Muddy Boots Mummy Website. Alternatively why not join the Muddy Boots baby Walking Group and arrange to meet other mums for a walk? Here are some of the suggestions from Mumblers of their favourite places to walk with a buggu;

  • Woodlesford Lock, where babies can look at the canal boats, ducks and scupltures
  • Lotherton, where you can also go into Wildlife World
  • Park walks, including Roundhay park, Pudsey Park, Springhead Park (Rothwell), Golden Acre
