YIPEEEEEEEEE!! It has been a lonnnnnng summer, and I must say that I’m a little relieved that my daughter is back at school and we can return to a routine. And that I can have some 1 on 1 time with my toddler again. Like many of our babies and toddlers, he’s been to relatively few classes over the last couple of years, so I was delighted that the lovely Monika from Mini Maracas allowed us to gatecrash one of her classes on Friday.
Mini Maracas is a music and movement class. There are classes in Horsforth, Adel and Headingley, with spaces still remaining for this term- just drop Monika an email if you’d still like to join in! They’re suitable for babies from 6 months to five years.
On arrival at Horsforth Children’s Centre, we took a place at one of the stations that were set out. We were encouraged to wear masks and sanitise before entering. Spread out around the room were mats and a little box with what you’d need during the class; some instruments, scarves and a toy. My son James got stuck in straight away.
Monika started the class with some singing whilst the children sat on our knees, or if they’re happier they can stand or dance next to you. It’s a really relaxed class, so if your child doesn’t want to take part or wants to do their own thing they absolutely can. We moved onto trying some of the various instruments in the box, before using the scarves and then the drumsticks. Each activity had a different song, which was great in keeping the littlies engaged!
When we moved onto the movement section, Monika handed out animal face masks. We danced in a circle as Monika used animal puppets to lead us in an animal song. Walkers joined in, with smaller babies being carried by their mums.
We soon moved onto the parachute songs! Great fun for everyone and James was disappointed when it ended!
We ended with a favourite in ANY class, bubbles!!
Before singing we had a goodbye song, and the children were given stickers. James had a great time at the class- it was full of variety and fun for everyone there, despite there being mixed ages. Thank you so much to the other mums and Monika for allowing me to join you!
