The Eat Out to Help Out scheme takes place from 3 August 2020 and will run until 31 August 2020, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays at participating establishments, including Banyan. In North Leeds, you can visit on Street Lane in Roundhay or on New Road Side in Horsforth.
You’ll get a 50% discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in (up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner). You won’t need a voucher to use this scheme and there is no minimum spend. All diners in a group of any size can use the discount- so the children are eligible for half price meals too. You cannot claim discount on alcoholic drinks or service charges.
When receiving your bill, the work’s done for you and you will be given the reduced price meals and drinks.
We were welcomed outside and shown to our pre-booked table that was indoors. Before entry, we were encouraged to use hand-santiser, and the table had been thoroughly cleaned before we sat. There’s lots of space both inside and out, and there were rather snazzy looking screens between the booths (non of the clear plastic that you see everywhere- this was well-designed and fitted in with the decor).
There were only 4 people at once allowed in the toilets- this wasn’t a problem when we were here, and they were lovely and clean. I think I got rather over-excited that they had a foot-pull to open the main toilet door so that you didn’t need to use the handle too!
We were given table service (and I want to add here that our waiter was absolutely FANTASTIC), but in busier periods you can use an app to order food and drink rather than going to the bar. It all seemed really well thought out and we were impressed with the measures that they had taken.
The children were given disposable paper menus and coloring crayons to draw on them. Main meals were £5.50 including a drink, meaning that under the Eat Out to Help Out scheme they’re only £2.75. An absolute bargain! We asked for a sausage, mash and peas, and a fish, chips and peas (our children choose desserts over starters every time). My husband and I were having starters so we asked for the kids meals to arrive at the same time, and they were more than happy to oblige. For desserts (only £1.95, so shy of a £1 under the eat out scheme), Jess has the Baked Waffle and James had the Chocolate Fudge Brownie. Purely for research purposes (ahem), I tried bit of all of their meals. I’m delighted to say everything tasted delicious.
For our choices, we tried duck spring rolls and calamari to start, and the chicken schnitzel and Thai red curry for mains. At the risk of gushing (ok I’m TOTALLY going to gush) the Thai Red Curry was amazing. I mean I’m a bit partial to thai food and eat lots of it. But honestly, this was FAB and I cannot recommend enough. Full price it is £13.50 so just £6.75 under the Eat Out scheme. For those of you who don’t fancy something as heavy, sandwiches, burgers and salads are also on the menu.
We had a truly enjoyable meal. Banyan is somewhere that we’ve frequently visited, so although this meal was gifted, it was served to the high standard that we always enjoy here (and would normally pay for). It has a great, relaxed atmosphere with many families enjoying the experience, and also returning often. And being able to enjoy this experience half price is just brilliant!
