Mini-Mumbler and I were invited to try out a Moo Music class together. We attended the Friday class at Adel War Memorial Hall and what a great time we had! Moo Music classes take place at venues across North Leeds Monday – Friday. Classes are suitable for children from birth – 5 years and they are split age appropriately.
BABY MOO classes are suitable from birth to walking (babies under 10 weeks sessions are just £1 a week!)
MINI MOO classes are perfect for those just crawling and on the move.
MIXED MOO classes are for children aged 0-5 and are great way to do classes with siblings and friends with different aged children.
Classes consist of singing, music, dance, sensory play and lots of fun! The interactive sessions will help your child gain confidence, develop language and coordination skills and are a great way for adults and children to make new friends. They are also a great way to burn excess energy off!
The classes are run by Caroline, a mum herself so she appreciates how children can react to different situations. Mini Mumbler was a bit shy on arrival and Caroline put him at ease straight away giving him some instruments to play with and making a fuss of him.
The 45 minute lesson starts with an opening song and a chance to play with musical instruments. It is then followed by lots of structured dances and role play around that weeks theme (ours was Superhero). Each song had a different sensory prop or story to stimulate the children’s imagination which Mini Mumbler loved!
The one thing that struck me about Moo Music was the amazing music, all the tracks are really catchy (found myself singing along to quite a few!) full of energy and encourage everyone to get dancing (including adults!). Combined with the amazing props children are really engaged in the session throughout. I don’t think I have been to a class with so many great props to stimulate the children.
Central to the structure of Moo Music classes are the six characters – Maggie Moo, Ollie Oink, Henry Horse, Barry Baa, Hollie Hen and Doris Duck. The children loved the characters and they are involved in the different themed activities in some way each week. They also help to structure repetition and encourage learning in a fun way.
Caroline was great with the children, friendly with lots of encouragement and praise which helped keep the children engaged throughout the class. She also has them all very well trained at tidying up!!
In summary, Moo Music is playtime, story-time and a sing-along rolled into one that uses music, dance, puppets, props, instruments, games and role play to enhance your child’s development.
If you want a class that is relaxed, friendly, fun, educational and full of energy you need to experience Moo Music! We had to dash off but lots of the parents were staying for a coffee afterwards, the class was very friendly and welcoming and a great way to meet other parents.
Also, make sure you watch out for the Moo Music themed and holiday specials which involve all the normal Moo Music fun and craft activities, older siblings are welcome too.
