Joon is a new high street hub that has recently opened in Boston Spa; offering a unique experience – combining the love of play and creativity with a shop and refreshments. It provides a safe, fun-filled environment for families, with crafts, toys, great cake, ethically sourced coffee and a friendly atmosphere.
I’m always on the lookout for new places to try, so was keen to visit Joon and see what it had to offer. As soon as we walked through the door, we knew this place was something special, with a designated craft table and play area to the front, walled with shelves of crafty gifts to buy; from colour-your-own t-shirts, to making-your-own cardboard dioramas; as well as unique accessories and gifts, such as bangle hairbands, animal pens, hats, sunglasses, and bags.
Further in, there is a bank of tables and chairs, a breakfast bar, and the counter to the rear. I ordered myself a drink whilst Emily got familiar with the books and toys in the play area. There is quite a range to choose from, specifically catering for pre-schoolers, giving plenty of choice and opportunity to keep little ones occupied.
Children’s crafts are available every day; drop-in crafts start from £3 with a new theme every week. This week was flowers and fish, crafted from hand prints. Emily spent no time at all getting stuck in, using my slightly larger hand as a base for her flower. She started off with pencil and crayons and quickly moved onto the paints.
And after completing her masterpiece, she went back to playing with the toys and the other children. The flexibility of the space allowing children to chop and change from one thing to another, as they undoubtedly do, is just what you need at pre-school age.
With a good choice of coffees, teas, cakes and pastries, as well as a children’s meal deal, you don’t have to rush off either, and can easily spend a few hours, playing, crafting and consuming.
Joon also provides more tailored activities and events:
-On Tuesdays from 11am, there is a Meet Up for parents, grandparents and carers who are either new to the area, new to parenthood, or would just like to meet new people.
-On Weekends and during School Holidays, there are bookable crafts; from making slime, to coin pouches, to dreamcatchers. Prices vary.
-Joon is also available to hire for private craft parties.
So, if you find yourself in Boston Spa, be sure pop into Joon for some cake and craft. It is a fabulous new venture and well worth a visit!
Joon is open: Monday & Friday 9am-5pm; Tuesday – Thursday 9am-4pm & Saturday 10am-4pm.
