The Princess and the Sprout and other festive tales is a Christmas show for ages 3-8 years and their grown-ups presented by Wrongsemble. The performances take place in a small pop up theatre in Leeds Central Library until 31st December and Mumbler went along to the first performance on Friday morning. We settled into our seats in room 700 of the Central Library excited for our first Christmas show of 2018! The room was set up with a small stage dressed as a library and seating for adults and children, providing an intimate setting which enables the audience to become immersed in the show.
The performance comprises of three stories (Scrooge’s Shoes, The Red Shoes and The Princess and the Sprout) each with a festive twist and various popular Christmas songs which are presented to the audience by three cast members. All of the stories are set in Leeds which provides a lovely way for the children to relate to the tales and ignite their minds.
Throughout the performance, the messages of kindness, sharing and being nice at Christmas shines through. All the stories are delivered in a fun, clever and entertaining way and have lots of unexpected twists which keep the adults as engaged as much as the children!
Our favourite story was the last, ‘The Princess and the Sprout’ which had lots of interaction with the audience, a puppet and had all the children giggling!
Wrongsemble certainly made the stories spring to life and engaged the imagination of the children (a mixture of ages 3 upwards) with lots of audience participation, singalongs and dancing all included in the hour long performance!
Afterwards, we were able to meet the cast (and the puppet) and have our photo taken – Mini Mumbler was a little shy!
If you are looking for a feel-good festive theatre performance which is a bit more relaxed/intimate than a large theatre setting then ‘The Princess and the Sprout and other Festive Tales’ is for you. It is also great value for money at £20 for a family ticket (4 people).
Wrongsemble have teamed up with Thors Tipi Leeds which is outside the Art Gallery where you can get FREE children’s hot chocolates when adult drinks are purchased after the show.
