How to apply for a Play Street Application

Play your part in making Leeds the best city for children and young people to grow up in and to be a child friendly city.

Leeds City Council supports neighbourhoods to close their streets for play and is keen for more children to experience playing out safely close to their homes and the benefits this will bring to the entire neighbourhood.

The Play Streets scheme is a resident-led initiative to enable children to play freely and safely in their own street. Leeds residents can make an application to the council for a temporary play street order. The order will be valid for 12 months and allows neighbours to close their road to through traffic for the purpose of play for up to three hours at a time. Play street sessions can be held either weekly, monthly or quarterly or as a one-off proposal.

The street is only closed to through traffic and during the session still remains accessible to the people who live on the street. The application pack and Play Street Guidance gives full details of how to close the street safely and the best way to manage access by car for residents. The documents ‘Application for Temporary Play Street Order’ and ‘Play Street Guidance’ can be found on the Leeds City Council Website here.

Leeds IAPT

Depression, anxiety or any kind of emotional stress are part of everyday life and can be a real challenge. Sometimes people are able to deal with this by themselves or with the help of family and friends. However, some professional help may be needed and Leeds IAPT can provide this.

Leeds IAPT provide psychological treatments, sometimes called talking treatments, to help people who are stressed, experiencing low mood (depressed) or are very nervous (anxious).

Treatments are delivered across a number of locations in the city and can take place as part of a group, online, or on a one to one basis. To access treatment patients can self refer to the service, this can be done via the website www.leedsiapt.com or by telephone (0113 843 4388).  Once an assessment has been completed our clinicians will then speak to patients about treatment options.

IAPT is available to people who are aged 17 or above and registered with a Leeds GP.

Leeds IAPT can help you change the way that you think and feel.

Leeds IAPT Wellbeing Workshops

  • Are you feeling overwhelmed at work?
  • Is worrying about work or day to day life getting in the way of a good night’s sleep?
  • Do you feel like you are making mistakes at work due to stress?

Why not come along to one of one-off workshops or sign up to attending our Stress Control Classes? These sessions focus on the importance of maintaining wellbeing within day to day life, the working environment and beyond.

All our sessions use a CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) model which is commonly used and well researched. CBT encourages you to build an awareness of your own problem and learn coping strategies to reduce stress and improve overall wellbeing.

Attending will also give you an insight into the IAPT service and the other treatments we can provide.

If you would like to find out more or book your place please click on the link below:

https://www.leedscommunityhealthcare.nhs.uk/iapt/wellbeing-workshops/

You will not need to be assessed beforehand and the relevant information will be collected at the session.

All workshops are delivered in a class environment (up to 40 people) and some interaction will be encouraged however there is no expectation that you must get involved.

Play Partners

Play Partners is a free one-to-one support service for children with additional needs and disabilities (5-17) across Leeds. Its aim is to help children attend and become integrated into local mainstream activities whilst helping providers become more accessible.

Children and families are free to choose what kind of activity they want to attend outside of school hours and we provide support which in the end, enables them to attend independently.

We take referrals ourselves and anyone can make a referral. The process is simple – just fill in a form – and more information along with an info booklet can be found here http://www.leedsplaynetwork.org.uk/playpartners/

We allocate a certain number of support hours during which workers are there to make sure both children and their chosen settings become comfortable with each other. We provide help and advice on inclusion and accessibility and can refer settings to further support after ours comes to an end. We’ve had a high rate of success since 2009, when the service started running and we hope we can carry on helping children and families out in the same way.

If you need any more information or have any questions, please give Ana a call on  0113 2495920.

Wave Mums

A Leeds-based peer support group for mums of young children, who are finding it hard… whatever the reason, come and have a cuppa with us.
We started Wave because we wanted to support other women in the same situations we’ve got through. We’ve experienced postnatal depression, postnatal anxiety, OCD, and PTSD. We get it.
We’re called Wave because no image better sums up the unpredictable highs and lows of parenting. And because sometimes, a friendly wave hello can mean so much when you’re having a bad day.

We meet at Lidgett Lane Community Centre, next to Moor Allerton Hall Primary School.

Every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month,  10am -11.30am.
