If your children like mine love watching Ninja Warriors and then build their own course around the house then I’ve found just the place for you – Agility!
York Mumbler recommended this state-of-the-art obstacle course as a place that my mini Mumblers would love and they were not wrong. Agility is on the outskirts of York (on the North Leeds side) so you need to drive to get there but it only took us 30 minutes (and it can often take me that long to get to the other side of Leeds!).
We booked online for a Sunday lunchtime so there was very little traffic to get there. The sessions start on the hour every hour and we were there 15 minutes before for a safety briefing. Top tip is to make sure you take grip socks (although if you forget then they also sell them). The mini Mumblers were very excited although my 6 year old was also a bit nervous as he had his first look at the Ninja course (designed for ages 5-11) as it had some big obstacles. He shouldn’t have been worried though as the briefing was really thorough and the coaches were brilliant in showing them how to get over each of the obstacles regardless of their size. They walked the whole course with them first time round and then positioned themselves throughout the session at some of the bigger obstacles to give a helping hand whenever needed.
As the mini Mumblers were having their briefing we found a table in the upstairs area which meant we could look over the entire course and follow their progress and also get some great pictures. While they were on the course we took a look at the menu and ordered some food and drinks. We were really impressed by the menu from ‘The Shack’. The menu wasn’t huge but didn’t need to be as there were a number of things that I wanted to order. I got the buddha salad bowl and it was enormous and really tasty. There was also a good kids menu and we ordered the mini Mumblers a pizza and a burger. They had this when they needed a well earned rest from the course. They couldn’t stop talking about how good it was and all the different obstacles. While they were talking at 100mph we quickly found out their favourites were the half cylinders to climb over, the jumping pads and the rope swing. They also loved the giant slide down from the café area.
After an hour running around the course they were worn out – an hour was definitely long enough for them, even with a break. After a big drink from ‘The Shack’ we were ready for home. The food was so filling that we didn’t even have room for the great selection of cakes and ice cream that they also served. We will definitely be back to try these out as the mini Mumblers have already been talking about their next visit.
There are also areas for different age groups, it is a great place for all the family to have fun (even adults!)
Agility Mini: (for those aged 4 and under) – there is lots to climb up and slide down plus a climbing wall and a sensory room.
Agility Warrior: (for those older, recommended for aged 12+) – this is a tougher course with lots of harder obstacles.
Agility also run parties with a dedicated area to eat, adult only sessions and weekly classes, see the website for the weekly timetable.
