I’m delighted to announce that Mumbler have teamed up with Mellownest who will be starting a regular monthly blog answering any questions you may have relating to common parenting concerns, especially around understanding your child’s behaviour or emotions. For exampe you may be struggling to understand changes in behaviour since starting school/nursery?
We met Claire from Mellownest for a cuppa and I found her to be very experienced and empowering. Sometimes it is nice to just get reassurance from someone else that you are on the right tracks, as after all this parenting lark is not always easy!
Mellownest will start their first Q&A column in October but for now here’s an introduction to them …….
Who are we?
We’re Claire and Nneka from Mellownest, a North Leeds business that has just one aim: to empower and inspire parents.
How we can help
We’re really excited to announce the start of a new monthly ‘Ask Mellownest’ feature, exclusively for North Leeds Mumbler.
If you have a parenting worry – we want to know!
You can find details of how to get in touch at the bottom of the page.
Our story
Before starting Mellownest, we’d spent the previous ten years working as a mental health professional and an educational psychologist respectively. Although we enjoyed working to support children and families we felt that somehow it wasn’t quite enough.
We knew we loved helping families to see things differently, shift challenging behaviours and get back onto a happier, healthier track. But we also knew that working the way we did meant that we could only help a small number of families at a time and we couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more we could do to get our positive parenting message out there.
While we pondered this idea, we were also writing and delivering training sessions in schools; educating teachers about child psychology, child development and neuroscience – in other words, helping them to understand what was going on in those little heads!
What we noticed however was that, while the teachers found what we had to say helpful for them in their classrooms, more often than not they were coming to talk to us about their own children. We realised that there was a need for this sometimes overly theoretical, hard-to-understand science stuff to be presented in a much more accessible way to parents and Mellownest was born!
What we do
We deliver workshops for parents who are interested in developing a positive, gentle style of parenting and want to get more out of their family life.
We also have online content for parents who can’t make it to our live workshops.
