Dalby Forest is always a fantastic day out with the family. Here’s some of our favourite things to do;
This is a great short walk that our children love! The trail starts at the Adderstone Field car park which is about 5 miles from the visitor centre. It’s £1.50 for an activity pack which has an easy to follow map to find the 12 markers, there are some great Gruffalo sculptures to find and little activities along the way. Not suitable for buggies. The Adderstone Field car park also has a play area with picnic tables, and is where you can find the Enchanted Wood. For a longer walk, combine the Gruffalo trail with the Adderstone Rigg Trail.
At the visitor centre (which has a lovely cafe and toilets), there’s a great adventure playground. Lots to do, picnic tables and an area for smaller children. In the summer you can even paddle in the river! During School Holidays, it’s also worth visiting to see if there are additional activities and crafts that are on.
There are a number of cycle trails at Dalby Forest, with bike hire available (including tagalongs and trailers). The routes are a variety of lengths and difficulties, but there are plenty of green routes for beginners and families. There is also a cycle skills area on the Ellerburn Trail. Whilst this demands more skilled riders, there are sections that confident children are able to try out.
Hull Mumbler recently took her family cycling at Dalby- read her review here.
(Correct as of November 2023) The Zog trail is lots of fun. You can pick up an activity pack from the visitor centre, or download the app before you go (signal there is not great- so do this at home!), As you walk along the trail, you come across stations to complete activities in the pack and can scan the QR code to enjoy interactive activities on your mobile.
Based next to the Adderstone Field car park, the Enchanted Wood is a beautiful area of woodland that contains a variety of magical sculptures, including a fairy throne, wood carvings and even a fortress! It’s a great place for children to explore- what can they discover?!
Dalby Forest has miles and miles of walking trails. There are some fantastic views and walks are all lengths and difficulties, so you can choose what’s best for your family and get outside.
