Gifted Review for Humble Bee Farm
Humble Bee Farm, located in a quiet valley a short drive from Filey, has been on our radar for a while. We regularly go camping as a family and had heard lots of good things on the Mumbler grapevine. So when we were invited to go along and stay in one of their Wigwam Cabins we were delighted to agree! I’ll skip to the good bit- we absolutely LOVED it here. So much so, that we’ve booked in (and paid this time!!) to return later this year. And I imagine it’ll become one of our regular haunts because there are few campsites that I think can match the family orientated nature and good feel vibes. Here’s a bit more about our stay; on a Friday and Saturday night in April in one of their Original Big Chief Wigwams.

The Original Big Chief Wigwams are the smallest of the glamping accommodation, sleeping two adults and two children. Outside, there is a picnic table, charcoal BBQ and firepit (you’ll need to buy the wood and charcoal from reception). Inside, the daytime sitting area transformed into beds- sleeping three along the back and one separate bed. The cabin was insulated with a heater- much needed on the colder April evenings! There was also a fridge (in the other types of accommodation expect a full sized one), a kettle and a microwave. Shelves helped keep the space organized and there was plenty of room under the beds/sofas for storage. It was really cosy and super comfortable (my son’s snores testament to a good nights sleep!!). In this accommodation you needed to take your own bedding- just be aware that the mats are not the size of a regular bed (slightly longer) so you cant use fitted bedsheets.
One of the best things about Humble Bee for children is that you’re on a farm! There are ducks, cows (and calves!), sheep, lambs, pigs, hens and guinea pigs to visit, as well as Tilly the Shetland pony who you can book in a slot to walk. I mean I’m not going to lie, she basically walked us from a patch of grass to another one (!!) but the kids loved the responsibility. We joined Farmer Percy on one of his rounds too and helped him feed the animals, including giving the lambs a bottle. The Hen house has a hatch that you can lift and see if there any eggs which all the children loved to peek into. Such a lovely place.
New for this year is ‘The Hive’; a cafe/bar next to reception that serves great coffee and breakfast buns in the morning, and something stronger for the parents and pizza in the evenings (different evenings have different arrangements for food). The outdoor tables were in the middle of the Farm Yard, so the children were able to wander round themselves whilst the parents had a drink. It worked really well, and lots of families were taking advantage (just note there is a car park and pond here so you do need them to stay fairly close). At the other end of the campsite is a small play area and a playing field. Most of the site road is tarmacked too- many children were scooting endlessly up and down past the cabins. There are two toilet blocks/ bathroom facilities on site- both of which were kept clean and well stocked.
Also on the farm were three walks, which meant you can really spend a bit more time on the site. We had a wall on the Piggy Back Walk, which was also an interactive nature trail.
Before we arrived we wee also encouraged to download an app on our phones which gave us loads of information about accommodation, FAQs, the site and things to do. It was great!
I’ll finish by repeating what I said in the intro; this was a fantastic site, very family friendly and there was loads for the kids to enjoy. There were lots of other families around, but you still got your own space and got to enjoy your time together as a family. It was a lovely location (the valley meant no phone signal too so you could completely switch off if you wanted to) and a great base to access the local area. Have a look at Days Out and local attractions at the local Mumbler websites; Hull & East Riding Mumbler, Ryedale Mumbler, and Scarborough & Whitby Mumbler.
