We’ve always driven past Giorgio’s in Far Headingley and said we should go there. It’s a family owned Italian restaurant and always looks to be busy. This weekend we finally made it and came away very impressed.
We were there early evening (about 5.30pm) on a Saturday as we were with the mini Mumblers but even at that time it was already starting to get busy with a complete mix of clientele from big families through to couples. When we arrived we immediately got a warm, friendly welcome from the front of house and were shown to our table.
The kids were supplied with paper and crayons and while they set to work drawing pictures we took a look through the vast menu. There was so much choice for both kids and for adults. The kids had the choice of different pasta, meat dishes or pizza’s and really took a while to choose as there was so much choice. It was as difficult for us to choose as there was also so much on the main menu that looked appealing. There was also a large specials menu.
Eventually, the mini Mumblers went for Grilled Chicken and Chips and Penne Napoli. We chose a Proscuitto Pizza and the Penne Amatriciana. We also had a garlic bread for us all to share which is a family favourite when we go to an Italian. The garlic bread arrived very quickly and the mini Mumblers had more than share of it – the garlic wasn’t too strong and the speed that they finished it off meant that I’m sure those on the next table thought that they must have been starved for weeks. The mains arrived fairly quickly afterwards (which the mini Mumblers were happy with) and they were all great and didn’t last long.
When we were asked if we wanted the dessert menu the mini Mumblers immediately said yes and very quickly decided that they were going to have Chocolate Fudge Cake and Chocolate Mousse (which were part of the kids meal deal). When they arrived they were again very popular and I was surprised that we managed to steal a taste.
Our time at Giorgio’s seemed to pass so quickly as the mini Mumblers were so occupied with their colouring and also watching all those taking part in the Otley Run walking past the window in their fancy dress ! (If you have never seen it then driving through Headingley is one of the mini Mumblers favourites seeing all the fancy dress – it also takes me back to my younger days doing the Otley Run!)
I can definitely recommend Giorgio’s. There’s a great menu choice, its great food and they really look after the children. While we were there they were also giving takeaways for customers who wanted to enjoy the menu but at home. They also are part of the Taste Card, Meerkat Meals, offer 20% student discount and have a great early-bird deal on during the week so offer great value.
