Pyjama Drama provides drama and imaginative play classes for children up to seven years in and around Leeds North.
Run by Sara, an experienced primary school teacher and mum of two, each class is packed full of singing, dancing, playing games and, of course, pretending!
‘Every week we go on a different adventure,’ says Sara, ‘One week we might be superheroes rescuing Tiddles form the Misery Monsters, the next teaching a snail how to ride a bike.’
Developed over a period of ten years, The Pyjama Drama programme focuses on the development of key skills; language and communication, confidence, co-operation and concentration, and supports the current requirements of the National Curriculum.
‘The best thing about our classes’ Sara continues, ‘is that children don’t even realise they’re learning. When they’re working out how to get over Crocodile Bridge without getting their toes snapped they’re learning critical thinking skills and when they’re in role as a vet saving tadpoles from a drought, they’re learning empathy as well as new vocabulary.’
Parents stay with their child during class, supporting them in the development of their new skills at first, and taking a step back to observe their imaginations at work as their child becomes more confident. To see the power of the imagination at play, join a class in Chapel Allerton on Mondays at 2 pm (extra class starting 1st Oct due to demand), Oakwood on Tuesdays at 1.50 pm or Alwoodley on Fridays at 1.15 pm.
