We all love it when we find that holy grail of scooter path dont we? Flat, surfaced and traffic free. Ohhhhh PERFECTION! Thanks to those Mumblers who shred their ideas, we’re delighted to give you the very best scooter paths (but we’ll forgive you if you take balance bike) around Leeds!
Roundhay Park- Roundhay park is not just a normal park, it’s HUGE and it has some fabulous paths to scoot to your heart’s content… with fab play areas too, woohooo!!
Woodlesford Lock – are you sick of me talking about this place yet? Ha, this is our go-to place. It’s a mile from Woodleford Lock to Fishpond Lock (and a mile back, shockingly), and you can go boat spotting, train spotting and even Gruffalo spotting! Once you’re past the canal boats there is only one house, so it’s very rare that you’ll see a car!
Calverley to Applerley Bridge Canal Path – another great canal path, a little further but this has the benefit of a pub at either end! See, both kids and adults can be winners!
St Aidans RSPB Reserve- although the visitor centre is at the top of a hill, once you get down to lake level there are loads of routes to explore. Just be warned this is a rubble track, so best visiting on scooters when it’s dry!
Swinsty Reservoir – a lovely 3 mile-ish circular route, although it can get muddy at points so again maybe one for the drier months! Please remember parking charges do apply now. You can also try Fewston reservoir, a bit longer at 4 miles.
Nostell Parkland – get some use out of those National Trust memberships, we love a trip here (pssst did you also know there are some PROPER bike trails here too?)
Middleton Park– well, it’s flat-ish. But there is a play area that you can use for a bribe!
Anglers Park, Wakefield– home of the brilliant Room on the Broom Trail, so you get to scoot and play along! Winning!
Kirkstall Abbey– this one is a good one if you’re just wanting a bit of fresh air, a nice short path to scoot round! Plus you can enjoy an explore of the fabulous abbey ruins too.
Yeadon Tarn– you lot love recommending this one! A lovely little circular path round the tarn with lots to see, a play area and of course plane spotting!
Bodington Cycle Circuit (at the Brownlee centre) is a one mile cycle circuit, which offers a range of drop in events during the week. The coffee run sessions are open to all, but specifically aimed at families with young children, whether you want a safe place to jog, learn to ride your bike or balance bike or push your pram, this 1 mile circuit provides a safe car free space. For timetables and costs please visit their website, Coffee Run sessions at the Bodington Cycle Circuit. The site also provides pay and pedal sessions for more competent cyclist wanting to improve their skills.
Castleford Greenway– this is newly discovered for us! But some nice new surfacing, it’s a good place if you’ve got new little riders to practise too! See this instagram post for more details.
The Arium Leeds. Ok this isn’t a cycle path. BUT there is a great little scooter track around their play area so it’s going on the list.
